Dazzling Polish pianist Leszek Mozdzer pays homage to Krzysztof Komeda, composer of scores for many Polanski films, including Rosemary’s Baby. Mozdzer’s brilliant Art Tatum-ish right hand and the shiny sound of his Fazioli piano seem alienating at first. But on repeated hearings the warmth of these homages shines through. The subtle harmonic shadings in Crazy Girl are a marvel, reminiscent of that other Polish composer Mozdzer reveres: Fryderyk Chopin.
